The University of Valladolid was founded in 1241 and therefore it is one of the oldest universities in Europe, boasting a wide range of Faculties and Research Institutes in Sciences and Arts. In 2011, it was awarded the Campus of International Excellence status. The University of Valladolid offers a wide range of Studies to about 28,000 pre-graduate students every year, plus about 3,000 post-graduate ones; it contracts 2,500 researches, who are distributed in 70 University Departments, 26 Faculties and Schools, 18 Institutes, as well as several Research Units. The total number of employees who work for this institution is 3,900 and, along with the human resources, the magnitude of its facilities and the available up-to-date instrumental equipment guarantee the quality of a vast scientific and technologic offer to the Society. Vigo University is a young and dynamic institution that offers a wide range of training programs in the three specialized and innovative campuses that make it up. It is located in the municipalities of Ourense, Pontevedra and Vigo with three specialized campuses where are more than 30 centers for training and research, as well as facilities for sports and leisure, with a continuous cultural program. It also has the Campus of International Excellence, Campus do Mar, led by the University of Vigo and which adds more than 3000 researchers, forming a cross-border network of research and knowledge with the sea as a driving force.

Palacký University Olomouc is a university with long-standing tradition. Founded in the 16th century, it is the oldest university in Moravia and the second-oldest university in the Czech Republic. The University of Salamanca is a Spanish higher education institution, located in the city of Salamanca, west of Madrid, in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It was founded in 1134 and given the Royal charter of foundation by King Alfonso IX in 1218. It is the oldest university in the Hispanic world and the third oldest university in the entire world still in operation. The formal title of “University” was granted by King Alfonso X in 1254 and recognized by Pope Alexander IV in 1255. Today the University of Salamanca is an important centre for the study of humanities and is particularly noted for its language and history studies, as well as in laws and economics. Scientific research is carried out in the university and research centres associated with it.

The Latvian Institute of International Affairs (LIIA) was established in May 1992 in Riga as a non-profit foundation charged with the task of providing Latvia’s decision-makers, experts, and the wider public with analysis, recommendations, and information about international developments, regional security issues, and foreign policy strategy and choices. It is an independent research institute that conducts research, develops publications, as well as organizes lectures, seminars and conferences related to international affairs.

Among Latvian think tanks, the LIIA is the oldest and one of the most well-known and internationally recognized institutions, especially as the leading think tank that specializes in international affairs.
